Joe Borovicka

A military veteran with experience on four continents and three combat zones, Joe teaches evidence-based self-protection and fear management to organizations, families, and individuals. He started traditional martial arts (Tang Soo Do, Soo Bahk Do, Moo Duk Kwan) at a young age, wrestled, competed in collegiate Judo, dove deep into Pekiti Tirsia Kali, taught Modern Army Combatives, and focused on practical mission and street application throughout. Along the way he practiced some Wing Chun, Ba Gua, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, noting commonalities and differences between techniques, training methods, and the reasons behind them.

Questions plagued him throughout his learning and teaching: Will this work when you’re surprised? Will this work when you’re scared? If someone isn’t nutty about this stuff like I am, is this training going to get them home safely?

After beginning to teach self-defense seriously, he investigated Tony Blauer’s SPEAR System, something he’d monitored for years and had influenced his thoughts for years. In his words, “the SPEAR System is the the perfect Minimum Effective Dose for anyone’s self-protection, and an adaptable, maintainable, effective combatives program for professionals and anyone serious about self-protection”. He is now a certified Personal Defense Readiness Coach and affiliated instructor under Blauer Tactical Systems.

When he’s not helping good people be safer from sudden violence he’s a father, outdoorsmen, and life-long learner.
