You can be safer, sooner.

Safer Sooner exists to make good people safer from sudden violence.

I believe basic self-protection should be taught to everyone.

Over the years I have recognized that specific principles and truths can make people safer. These principles can be found incorporated into multiple disciplines because of their effectiveness, such as into the choreographed forms of martial arts and into the foundations of street fighting. However, I also identified the need for a specific program that shared these most intuitive and effective self-defense responses in a form that could truly be applied by anyone, free of the norms that come with teaching a style that is typically applied in a fighting ring, competitive sport, and other environments that are not authentic to sudden violence. I don’t teach fighting; I teach how to be safe.

After experiencing and working with different programs, I discovered the SPEAR System utilized these truths, and more. Now, I am formally affiliated with Blauer Tactical Systems, and officially offer the best self-protection system in the world to those who want to be safer, sooner.

Since the start of my journey in the martial arts, combat sports, military combatives, and now self-protection, the world has become in some ways safer and in some ways more violent. Persistent threats exist, and the risk of some kinds of non-consensual violence is increasing.

I believe everyone has a right to be their own best bodyguard.

My service to you is an answer to this concern and a sincere effort to increase your safety and well-being.

What I do: SPEAR Maxims: About Violence:

  • I teach that your personal protection is your responsibility. I help you meet that responsibility.

  • I teach you what you can do, not what I can do.

  • I teach getting home safe, morally, ethically, and legally. I do not teach ‘fighting’.

  • I teach that YOU are the first fesponder in your fight. EMS, law enforcement, and other career first responders arrive on site much later than they’d like to be; I’m here to help you be your own bodyguard.

  • I don’t teach fighting. I teach moving to safety. Jail isn’t safe, therefore everything I teach is legally, morally, and ethically congruent with common law.

  • “Violence doesn’t care what style you practice.” -Coach Tony Blauer

  • “The biggest hindrance to spontaneous movement in a violent encounter is the over-emphasis of perfect technique.” -Coach Tony Blauer

  • With respect to sudden violence, your decision to move is more important than how you move.

  • Watch some recorded nonconsensual violence and look for technique. You may see some in a consensual street fight, but in a predator-victim scenario you’ll see intimidation, fear, mad scrambles and/or primal movement.

  • You vs. The Court is important, just like You vs. The Bad Guy.
